Abstract

In this lecture, participants will learn to define the concept of mindfulness and the different types of practices. They will also learn about the origins of mindfulness and the multiple benefits of this practice, which is increasingly studied empirically. Research on mindfulness grew a lot between 2000 and 2020, with many studies being published in scientific journals. We live in a time where technology pressures us to produce quickly and efficiently. We are moving away from contemplative practice, and missing the opportunity to study our private behaviors. With an industry worth more than US$1 billion, the market for mindfulness practices is spreading across schools, universities and companies. The benefits of mindfulness and full attention practices, in search of a good quality of life and well-being, are increasingly closer. It is up to us, the consumers of this movement, to study it in a curious way and with scientific rigor, so that we can continue to promote the well-being of individuals in our society.
